Itinerary

Day 1 - Guwahati touchdown and drive to Shillong (110 Kms 03 Hours approximately)

Upon your arrival at Guwahati airport or railway station, we will transfer you to Shillong. On the way, we'll make a stop to visit the stunning Umium Lake. Shillong, the first capital of Meghalaya, is nestled in pine-covered hills, offering a milder climate compared to tropical India. The city, located at an elevation of 1496 meters above sea level, boasts a population of around 270,000. Known for its waterfalls, Shillong is often referred to as the "Scotland of the East" due to its picturesque landscapes and still carries British architectural and culinary influences.

You will stay overnight in Shillong.

Day 2 - Shillong - Cherrapunjee - Shillong (Approximately 60 km, 2 hours each way)

Start your day with breakfast at the hotel and then head to Cherrapunjee. Cherrapunji, located in Meghalaya, is renowned as one of the wettest places on Earth, being the only region in India to receive rain throughout the year. As you explore Cherrapunjee, you'll be captivated by its natural beauty and breathtaking views of the plains of Bangladesh. Your visit will include stops at Arwah Cave, Nahkhalikai Falls, Mwasmai Cave, Seven Sister Falls, Dainthlen Waterfalls, Eco Park, and Wei Sawdong Waterfalls. On your way back to Shillong, you will also visit Elephant Falls.

Your overnight stay will be in Shillong.

Day 3 - Shillong Tezpur (Approximately 250 km, 5.5 hours)

After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, we will drive to Tezpur. Often considered a practical stopover for travelers on their way to Arunachal Pradesh or Upper Assam, Tezpur surprises with its charm. The town is adorned with well-maintained parks, attractive lakes, and breathtaking views of the mighty Brahmaputra River, which gently caresses the town's edge.

You will stay overnight at a hotel in Tezpur.

Day 4 - Tezpur - Dirang (Approximately 200 km, 7 hours)

Following breakfast, embark on a drive to Dirang. Dirang, with its picturesque Tibetan-Monpa stone village, marred only by the presence of the main road, is a sight to behold. Above the picturesque stone houses, a steep rocky hill rises, crowned with the Old Dirang Gompa and several walls.

You will stay overnight in Dirang.

Day 5 - Dirang - Tawang (Approximately 150 km, 5 hours)

After breakfast, the journey continues to Tawang. Along the way, you'll encounter the snow-capped Sella Pass at 14,000 feet and the Jaswant Garh War Memorial, known for the legendary story of Jaswant, a Mahavir Chakra Awardee (Posthumous) of the 4th Battalion Garhwal Rifles, who valiantly defended the area against the invading Chinese during the 1962 war.

Tawang, situated at an altitude of 3,500 meters, will enchant you with its natural beauty, and the solitude of the Gudpi and Chong-Chugmi ranges, Tawangchu River, and Tawang Valley. The district is inhabited by the Monpa tribe, with the exception of Shyo village, which people of Tibetan origin predominantly populate.

You will spend the night at a hotel in Tawang.

Day 6 - Tawang

Begin your day with breakfast at the hotel and set out for a sightseeing tour, starting with the 400-year-old Tawang Monastery, the second-largest monastery globally after the Potala Palace in Tibet. The monastery's vast dimensions include a building that stretches about 113 feet in length and 80 feet in width, housing a treasure trove of valuable antiquities, books, and manuscripts, both handwritten and printed.

You will also visit the Tawang War Memorial, a 40-foot-high multi-hued memorial constructed in the stupa design. This memorial pays tribute to the martyrs of the Sino-Indo War in 1962 and is situated amidst picturesque peaks, offering a commanding view of the Tawang-Chu valley. The rest of the day is free for you to explore the town at your leisure.

Your overnight stay will be in Tawang.

Day 7 - Tawang - Bomdila (Approximately 180 km, 6 hours)

After breakfast, we will drive from Tawang to Bomdila. Bomdila, the headquarters of West Kameng district, is situated at an altitude of 8,500 feet above sea level. The town offers numerous attractions, including a cool climate, apple orchards, artistic communities, snow-capped Himalayan peaks, and Buddhist Gompas.

The Buddhist monastery in Bomdila is a repository of culture. You'll have the afternoon to explore the town.

Your overnight accommodation will be at the hotel.

Day 8 - Bomdila - Kaziranga (Approximately 220 km, 5-6 hours)

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and then drive from Bomdila to Kaziranga. Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is renowned for its population of the Great Indian One-Horned Rhinoceros. The park's landscape is characterized by dense forests, tall elephant grass, rugged reeds, marshes, and shallow pools.

Kaziranga is also home to a substantial number of tigers and boasts a significant breeding population of elephants, wild water buffalo, and swamp deer.

You will spend the night at a hotel in Kaziranga.

Day 9 - Kaziranga

Start your day with an early morning elephant ride in the park, followed by a return to the hotel for breakfast. After breakfast, you will visit the Kaziranga Orchid & Biodiversity Park and embark on a Jeep Safari in the Central range of the park.

Your overnight accommodation will be at the hotel.

Day 10 - Kaziranga - Guwahati (Approximately 230 km, 4 hours)

Following breakfast, you will drive from Kaziranga to Guwahati. Guwahati, the gateway to the northeast and the region's largest and most cosmopolitan city, serves as the starting point for most Northeast India itineraries.

The city, somewhat featureless with its predominantly modern architecture, contains a scattering of interesting temples worth exploring. A walk through the city's back alleys and old quarters allows you to discover the local flavor that lingers amid the suburban sprawl of ponds, palm trees, small single-story traditional houses, and old colonial-era mansions.

You will spend the night at a hotel in Guwahati.

Day 11 - Guwahati Exploration

Following your morning meal, embark on a visit to the Kamakhya Temple. This sacred temple is dedicated to the goddess Kamakhya, considered an incarnation of Sati. Perched atop the Nilachal hill, it is believed, according to the Shiva Purana, that the yoni or creative force of Sati descended here when Vishnu intervened to save the world from Shiva's destructive dance, using his Sudarshan Chakra to dismember her lifeless body into 51 pieces.

Your exploration will also take you to the Navagraha Temple, Umananda Temple, Balaji Temple, and the State Zoo.

You will spend the night in Guwahati.

Day 12 - Departure from Guwahati

After your morning meal, we will arrange for your transfer to the airport or railway station to catch your onward connection.
