Itinerary

Day 1 - Guwahati touchdown and drive to Tezpur (190 Kms 5 hours approximately)

Set off on your journey from Guwahati to Tezpur upon arrival at Guwahati railway station or airport.

The picturesque town of Tezpur, which, while serving as a utilitarian stopover for those en route to Arunachal Pradesh or Upper Assam, reveals its charm through beautifully maintained parks, alluring lakes, and captivating vistas of the majestic Brahmaputra River caressing the town's periphery.

Overnight stay in your lodgings at a hotel in Tezpur.

Day 2 - Tezpur - Dirang drive (160 kms 4-5 hours approximately)

On the second day of your journey, depart from Tezpur after breakfast, heading towards Dirang.

As you approach Dirang, you'll encounter an almost flawless Tibetan-Monpa stone village, where the only blemish on its beauty is the main road. Perched above the charming stone houses, a steep rocky hill proudly holds Old Dirang's Gompa along with its historic walls.

Your overnight stay is at the hotel in Dirang.

Day 3 - A pleasant drive from Dirang to Tawang (150 kms 5 hours approximately)

On the third day of your journey, after a hearty breakfast, set off for Tawang.

Along the way, you'll have the opportunity to marvel at the snow-capped Sella Pass, standing tall at 14,000 feet, and pay your respects at the Jaswant Garh War Memorial, a site steeped in history. Legend has it that Jaswant, a posthumous Mahavir Chakra Awardee from the 4th Battalion Garhwal Rifles, valiantly defended this place in a solitary battle during the 1962 conflict with the Chinese, and his spirit is still believed to watch over it.

Tawang, nestled at an altitude of 3,500 meters, awaits its awe-inspiring natural beauty, the serene Gudpi and Chong-Chugmi ranges, the meandering Tawangchu River, and the captivating Tawang Valley. The residents of this district predominantly belong to the Monpa tribes, with the exception of Shyo village, which people of Tibetan origin predominantly inhabit.

Relax and rewind for the following day at the hotel in Tawang.

Day 4 - Tawang sightseeing galore

Start your day with a delightful breakfast at the hotel before starting off with the sightseeing tour of Tawang.

First on the agenda is a visit to the Tawang Monastery, a 400-year-old marvel dating back to the 17th century. Remarkably, it ranks as the world's second-largest monastery, surpassed only by the Potala Palace in Tibet. The monastery's grand structure stretches about 113 feet in length and 80 feet in width, housing an impressive collection of valuable antiquities, handwritten and printed books, and manuscripts.

Following this enriching experience, make your way to the Tawang War Memorial, a vibrant 40-foot-high monument designed in a stupa fashion. This memorial serves as a poignant dedication to the martyrs of the Sino-Indo War of 1962 and is nestled amid the stunning peaks that overlook the Tawang-Chu valley.

The rest of the day is at your leisure, allowing you to meander through the charming streets of the town and immerse yourself in its unique atmosphere.

Get a good night's sleep after an eventful day at the lodgings in Tawang.

Day 5 - Make your way to Bomdila from Tawang (180 kms approximately 6 hours)

Begin the day with a satisfying breakfast at your hotel before embarking on a scenic drive to Bomdila.

Situated at an elevation of 8,500 feet above sea level, Bomdila serves as the headquarters of the West Kameng district. This picturesque destination offers a plethora of attractions for travelers, including its refreshing climate, bountiful apple orchards, the presence of artistic communities, the backdrop of snow-capped Himalayan peaks, and the serenity of Buddhist Gompas. Bomdila's Buddhist monastery stands as a cultural treasure trove, reflecting the essence of the region.

In the afternoon, take some time to explore the charming town of Bomdila, immersing yourself in its unique ambiance and the warmth of its people.

Retire for the night at your hotel in Bomdila.

Day 6 - Bomdila to Guwahati (270 kms 7-8 hours approximately)

After savoring a delicious breakfast in Bomdila, you'll embark on a scenic drive to Guwahati.

As the gateway to the northeastern region, Guwahati stands out as the largest and most cosmopolitan city. While its exterior may seem somewhat nondescript, dominated by glass and concrete structures, there are hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Venture into its charming back alleys and historic quarters, where you can uncover a wealth of local flavors amid the suburban landscape, dotted with ponds, palm trees, small single-storey traditional houses, and old colonial-era mansions.

Retire comfortably for the night at your hotel in Guwahati.

Day 7 - Homebound journey

On this last day of your trip, commence your spiritual journey by visiting the Kamakhya Temple after having a delicious breakfast at the hotel. This sacred temple is dedicated to Goddess Kamakhya, an incarnation of Sati. According to the Shiva Purana, it is atop Nilachal hill that the yoni, or creative organ, of Sati, fell when Lord Vishnu intervened to save the world from the destructive dance of Lord Shiva by using his Sudarshan Chakra.

In addition to the Kamakhya Temple, explore the serene surroundings by visiting the Navagraha Temple and the Umananda Temple, accessible by a Government ferry.

Later, you'll be smoothly transferred to the airport or railway station, ensuring you are on time for your onward homebound journey from Guwahati.
